Buhari greets the honourable guests during the ceremony
Hundreds of youths, suspected to be members of the All Progressives Congress (APC), have besieged the Presidential Villa in Abuja. The young people reportedly hope to have an audience with President Muhammadu Buhari.
Shortly after the inauguration ceremony, the youths, who were seen brandishing APC banners and brooms, moved from the Eagles Square to the Supreme Court Gate of the Villa.
The Punch reports that the young APC supporters had earlier overwhelmed the security cordon mounted on major roads leading to Eagle Square during the inauguration. However, their attempts to enter the Presidential Villa were resisted by security operatives at the gate.
The security operatives succeeded in pushing back the youths, but they still refused to leave the place. The youth kept on gathering on a bridge in front of the gate and singing solidarity songs.
After receiving world leaders at the Aso Rock Villa, Nigeria’s new president reportedly went to a mosque for prayers. Buhari left the guests in the hands of the Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo pending when he gets back from the mosque.
