Lagos - Lagos State residents have been urged to dispose of their litter properly to avoid flooding.
State Commissioner for the Environment, Tunji Bello, said this in the wake of the cancellation of the statewide monthly Sanitation Exercise.
He assured that the June edition of the cleaning exercise will definitely hold next month and advised residents of the state to still use this period for the usual cleaning of their homes, drainages, frontage and environment.
Bello added that waste managers across the state will be ground to remove the waste generated during the cleaning exercise. He stressed that with the gradual approach of peak rainy season in the state residents should dispose their waste properly and avoid dumping waste into drains.
The official said Lagos was intensifying its mid-rain deflooding programme in order to reduce to the barest minimum the incidents of flooding in the state.
Lagos’ monthly Sanitation Exercise is held every last Saturday of the month.
