Kenya: Jeff Koinange Charged With Contempt, Released On Sh100,000 Cash Bail

Television talk show host Jeff Koinange who was charged with contempt of court on Tuesday was released on a Sh100,000 cash bail. A warrant for his arrest issued four days ago did not authorise a jail term, said
senior principal Magistrate Linus Kasam.
The Jeff Koinange Live host thanked his supporters via Twitter following his release saying "JKL rolls on... See you tomorrow on KTN". He was arrested at his home earlier on Tuesday for failing to appear in court over a defamation suit. Justice Weldon Korir on Monday denied Koinange and businessman Tony
Gachoka's bids to stop their arrests. Korir instead ordered the two to serve senior resident magistrate Maisy Chesang with their application for an inter-parties hearing on Wednesday. Chesang issued their warrants of arrest after they failed to appear in court last week for discussing a case on TV despite being ordered not to. Koinange and Gachoka linked tycoon Jimi Wanjigi, a director of the Kwacha Group of Companies, to the multibillion-shilling Anglo-Leasing scandal. The case will be heard on May 25.
