A car driver has been arrested after a crash which resulted in the death of a Belgian student.
The 16-year-old pedestrian died at the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton after the crash in Eastbourne at 23:03 BST on Wednesday.
The girl was initially treated by paramedics at the scene of the crash in Susans Road, near the junction with Pevensey Road.
The driver, a 45-year-old man from Bexhill, was arrested at the scene.
Sussex Police said he was being held on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving.
Officers are appealing for witnesses to the crash, which involved a grey Hyundai i800, to come forward
