The Chief of Dawaki in Gwagwalada Area Council of the Federal Capital
Territory (FCT), Zakari Seriki, has appealed to the authorities to
construct the road that links to the community.
The Chief told Aso Chronicle at the weekend that the absence of road linking the community has been their major challenge and appealed to the council authorities to come to the aid of the community.
Also, a primary school teacher in the community, Izuagie Ganiyu, said that the access road is always at its worst during the rainy season as the makeshift bridge constructed by the community would be over flooded by a stream, making both vehicular and human movements difficult.
Ganiyu recalled that he almost drown in the stream in the last rainy season while trying to cross the makeshift bridge that links the community with neighbouring Kaida.
"But for the efforts of some youths who rescued me, only God knows what could have happened," he said.
The teacher also expressed concern over the current state of the community school, and appealed for an upgrade of the school facilities to improve accessibility and relieve crowded classrooms.
"There is need for more classrooms and furniture to accommodate the growing enrolment in the school, which has increased overtime," he noted.
Meanwhile, a resident, Galadima Seriki, said among the pressing needs of the community are potable water and primary healthcare centre (PHC).
He said the community has two boreholes provided by a missionary and the area council through the MDGs water project, adding that one of them is faulty.
The functioning borehole, he said, was not enough to meet the water needs of the community, forcing the residents to get water from streams.
Galadima added that healthcare facilities are far from the reach of residents and the situation has forced them to rely on patent medicine vendors for medical attention.
