Lagos - The Biafra Nations Youth League (BNYL) is calling on all Biafrans to shun participation in the Nigeria Independence celebrations on Saturday.
The organization urged people in the region to instead mark it as a “black day” for Biafrans.
“We have no reason to join Nigerians in celebrating independence, it's a black day for Biafrans, I wish they stop reminding us of Lugard mistakes by celebrating 1st October of every year,” said National President, Prince Chimezie Obuka.
He noted Southern Cameroon also left Nigeria on October 1, 1961. It became part of Cameroon.
This was a year after Nigeria gained independence from Britain.
“As they (Southern Cameroon) mark 1st October, in solidarity we shall them believing that sooner than later, our occupied regions including Southern Cameroon will be liberated,” said Obuka.
