Majority wants new government to address power woes

Lagos – A majority of Nigerians have cited corruption as the most pressing challenge impeding on democracy in the country.

This is according to findings of a snap survey conducted by a regional polling firm ahead of the ongoing Democracy Day celebrations.

According to NOIPolls, 32 percent believe corruption is the biggest threat to democracy, followed by bad governance (22 percent) and insecurity (11 percent) as well as unemployment (6 percent).

The research organisation established that a majority of Nigerians, 55 percent, believe the incoming administration of Muhammadu Buharimust focus on provision of power (energy) in the next four years.

This is followed by tackling insecurity (41 percent) and education (34 percent).

Regarding the outgoing administration of President Gooluck Jonathan, most Nigerians believe it made strides in the development of agriculture (19
percent) and education (18 percent) and Aviation (9 percent).
